1 of 1
Vehicle Description 312v8, 3 speed with/OD transmission, All Original, believed to be 30k actual miles, ALL DOCUMENTATION included, DON'T Let this get away !! Up for sale is my absolutely awesome all original 30,000 mile 1956 Ford Thunderbird (Baby Bird).
This beauty came from the factory with the high output 312 (5.
1 liter) Y block engine with a Holly 4000 four-barrel teapot carburetor mated to a manual 3 speed Borg Warner transmission complete with automatic overdrive.
This two owner classic has been veeeery well maintained over the last 66 years and lived her entire life in a climate controlled garage.
She is something of a barn find since the second owner of this car owned her for over 50 years and only took her out to car shows, antique cruises, and parades on the rare nice weekends we have here in Oklahoma.
Engine oil and filter were changed every year regardless of use This ole girl was driven 8 miles last year (2021).
4 miles to the shop for an oil change and 4 miles back to the garage where she sat patiently waiting for her next outing.
Once every month religiously this car was started up, backed out of the garage, and allowed to run up to operating temperature under the carport then brought back inside.
This T-Bird is about as original as they come but with some tasteful updates installed to make her daily drivable as well as safely drivable:
New dual exhausts with glass packs from manifolds all the way back to bumper.
Breaking system rebuilt from pedal to drum with new flexible lines, seals, actuators, pressure switches (for tail lights), and even a few new steel hard lines where replaced.
New shocks installed all the way around.
Just about every seal on the engine, transmission, and differential has been replaced in the last few months.
Engine, transmission, and differential have all been majorly disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, flushed, and inspected.
Full synthetic Amsoil fluids were used when going back together.
Engine valves were inspected and adjusted 300 miles ago (most were still in spec) Holley 4000 four-barrel carburetor was completely disassembled, chemically soaked 24 hours, inspected, rebuilt with new kit, and tuned 300 miles ago.
Electric choke was also added at this time.
12 volt battery was replaced recently and has a wired in battery tender mounted under the hood.
Entire fish bowl (instrument cluster) was disassembled, cleaned, inspected, and reinstalled with all new light bulbs.
All vacuum lines have been completely replaced.
Heater control valve which is vacuum operated was also replaced as it was leaking slightly but still functional.
This car was repainted a snowshoe cream white in 1969 by the second owner, and is in fair condition.
Passenger side front fender is starting to crack but the rest of the car is in pretty good shape with only minor nicks and scratches.
The chrome is all original and in good shape with limited pitting.
The interior is original as well and actually in very good shape overall.
Over the last few months the majority of this maintenance was completed by myself (a licensed A&P aircraft mechanic).
Since then this little Thunderbird has been taken out on several smaller road trips across Oklahoma (160-380 miles) and shaken down with great results.
She gets about 14 miles to the gallon and cruises at 70 mph all day long with no overheating issues or drivability concerns whatsoever.
This is a meticulously well maintained driver's car! You will definitely get a lot of thumbs up while out on the road with this ole girl Currently this head turning T-Bird is 100% road trip ready and could be used as a daily driver with no worries once so ever.
I was prepping this car for a two month long road trip down Route 66 to California but then life happened The 89 year old owner suddenly got cancer and his children have no real interest in classic cars.
This car comes complete with a hardtop, rear fender skirts, and a few other bits and pieces collected over the years.
Come see this B-E-A-utiful antique auto in the flesh! Clear Oklahoma State title in my hand and ready to go.
Thanks so much and drive safe out there my friends.
